This was the third time I attended Wings Over Houston...The featured performers were the Canadian Snowbirds demo team (a real yawner)...Air shows should be made exempt from budget sequestrations...

Captions and links have been added to photos in this album...

Oshkosh M1070 military haul truck...

Oshkosh, b'gosh...

The crowd gathers to watch the only remaining airworthy B-29 left in the world take flight...

"Texas Raiders" approaches the flight line...

Some old doofus kept getting in the way of my photos of the greatest fighter aircraft the world has ever known...Where is security when you need them?...

The same old codger is demonstrating why his knees no longer work after R&R'ing several thousand missile launchers in his brief career...

Commemorating the Doolittle Raid of 1942, an example of how American innovation and daring can defeat the efforts of all our enemies...
On a cold day on a West German flight line, this was the place to be to warm up for a few seconds before crawling back under the next aircraft wanting attention...Well, maybe not quite this close, but it was a welcome place to be for a moment as the engines warmed up...

"Thunderbird," another of the few airworthy B-17's left...

A Czech L-39 Albatross...

Lockheed T-33 training aircraft...

Soviet developed Mig-17...

An early variant of the Curtiss P-40...

Called "Whistling Death" for the unique sound it makes in flight...

Crowds are naturally drawn to the finest jet fighter of all time...

The Collings Foundation's F-4 Phantom II has this magnificent North American F-100 Super Sabre for a hangar mate...

Also housed by the Collings Foundation is this McDonnel A-4 Skyhawk...

Douglas A-26 Invader...

North American P-51C Mustang...This design was called a "razorback"...

It's "Tora, Tora, Tora" time!...

Sneak attack...As soon as Admiral Yamamoto learned the attack started before the formal declaration of war, he knew the Empire of Japan was doomed to defeat...

The B-17's trying to land at Hickam Field on 12/7/1941 were being delivered from the US, and were unarmed...

The famous "one wheel landing" seen in the film, "Tora, Tora, Tora" was an accident due to a malfunction in the landing gear...It has been seen in countless movies since...The demo team continues to use it to good effect...

The re-enactors recreating the attack in their replica Japanese planes always put on a spectacular show...To my knowledge there is only one airworthy Mitsubishi Zero in the US, and I have seen it perform at Wings Over Houston with Tora, Tora, Tora...

Ah, I love smell of napalm!...But the smoke doesn't do much for image quality...

Maybe someday I'll book a ride on Texas Raiders...

Without training aircraft like these, pilots could never get off the ground in fighters and bombers and cargo planes...

This is a General Motors built version of the Douglas TBD Devastator, designated as a TBM...

The Corsair is about the most wicked looking fighter aircraft of WWII...

That long nose houses 2200 horsepower...

A unwise choice of which to make enemies...

Big and little friends...

The "Normandy stripes" were to prevent friendly fire incidents...

"Betty's Dream" is a North American B-25 Mitchell configured for attack use...

Neither smoke, nor enemy fire, nor gloom of night will stay these couriers from the swift annihilation of anyone dumb enough to oppose them...

The sight of Fifi in the air was worth the whole price of the ticket...

Diamond Lil is owned and operated by the CAF...

I really like my 400MM lens...

Fifi on her parade pass...Thanks again to my 400MM lens...

And another P51-D...

After seeing this Mig 17 in action with afterburner lit, I know why they made a fearsome opponent...

It could turn on a dime, and give you nine cents change...
